FFP recognition for Italian Certification Schemes
Following the approval of the Fiore Giusto certification scheme Fair Flowers Fair Plants has also approved the RINA certification system in April 2009.
The approval of the schemes follows the advice of the Review Committee upon the benchmark of the certification schemes. With the approval the Committee has positively valued the schemes as a guarantee that social criteria concerning the rights and safety of workers and surrounding communities are set as a standard. Meeting this social standard - that is according to the International Code of Conduct (ICC) - in addition to environmental certification (MPS-A or equivalent level) – is essential for participation in the FFP program as a grower.
To Fiore Giusto (leading Italian label for environmentally friendly produced cut flowers) and RINA (leading Italian Certification Organization) the FFP recognition will provide a supporting tool not only to increase public involvement with the sustainable production of flowers and plants, but also to achieve a firmer position on the (European) market for sustainably produced flowers and plants for the Italian growers.
